STOCK CAR CLASSICS BRINGING NASCAR HISTORY TO THE ROCK

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — SWN Photos — The Southeast based STOCK CAR CLASSICS NASCAR history group will present restored and replica NASCAR Cup Series racing machines from the 1930’s through the early 2000’s at Rockingham Speedway’s Open House on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

Fans are encouraged to come out and see these amazing machines as they tour the newly repaved track and visit the garage area to see them up close, meet their driver/owners and take photos or videos of these classic racers. The group was founded by Virginia eye doctor Brinkley “Doc” Whiteside as a way to preserve the legacy of NASCAR and to make it possible for him and other history enthusiasts not just to show the cars, but to be able to take laps on some of the most historic NASCAR tracks.

Over 30 cars are expected to gather at “The Rock” for their 2nd Annual open house, which features free admission, an appearance by NASCAR Legend Donnie Allison, a live DJ all day and area food trucks along with racing by the Allison Legacy Series plus exhibition runs by STOCK CAR CLASSICS.

“Our STOCK CAR CLASSICS group has grown so much over the past year,” Whiteside said. “We have been to Rockingham before, Darlington, Dillon Motor Speedway, but this is going to be a thrill for us to see all the fans and be able to run laps on the track with the new pavement. We are blessed to be able to enjoy the cars we all work hard to restore and maintain, and we love for others to see and enjoy them as well. We’re keeping NASCAR history on track in 2023 starting with the event in March at Rockingham, and we appreciate the staff there allowing us to serve up a little NASCAR history for the fans.”

Fans are encouraged to come into the garage area and visit with the teams and see the cars up close. “We do several events without fans,” Whiteside said, “ But we love it when we can get involved and let fans see these cars that we all loved to watch race as kids on tracks like Rockingham. All the fans are welcome to come and visit with us and get a better look at the cars. We enjoyed being a part of the rebirth of North Wilkesboro last year and we’re excited to be able to be part of this special day at Rockingham, and we hope the fans will come out and have fun with us.”

Gates for spectators open at 10am on Saturday, March 4, with on-track activity to follow until about 5pm.
