CHARLOTTE, N.C. – 14-year-old George Phillips will be searching for his fourth pro late model win of 2023 when he hops back behind the wheel of the Setzer Racing and Development No. 6 to compete in the Carolina Pro Late Model Series race this Saturday, July 15th at Tri-County Speedway.
Phillips, who lives outside of Charlotte, N.C., has been to victory lane twice with his Miller Performance Motorsports prepared legend car at Charlotte Motor Speedway as well, winning races one and four of the 30th Annual Cook Out Summer Shootout, where he’s had five top five finishes in seven races in that national series so far this summer.
“I feel like this weekend is going to be really good for us,” Phillips said. “Setzer Racing and Development always gives me a fast car. I will need to really study the track and the line and just focus hard if I’m going to get that fourth win, but I know I have a car that can do it if I do my part right.”
The personable young racer had a strong run going at Charlotte in the Miller Performance Motorsports No. 55 legend car on Tuesday but for the second straight week on the ¼-mile, he was in the wrong place at the right time. “The car was running really fine,” he explained. “Then we had a caution flag and ended up in a wreck. It’s tough to know you could have run for a win and then had that happen, but we’re leading the points and we’ve got three rounds left to stay there, so we’ll come back next week and do our best!”
“I want to thank my sponsors,” said George. “I really appreciate all of them for all they do for me. I want to thank Citrusafe Racing, Ross and Witmer Inc., The Racing Warehouse and Simpson Racing Products for all of their support.”
